I believe that Chinua Achebe included the tortoise story to tell people how he thought the people i the Igbo tribe were being. The moral of the story is do not be greedy. We have the tortoise and the hare fable which is about how a hare decides to sleep during a race against the tortoise because he is much faster. This ends up being a terrible mistake because the tortoise wins the race. The moral of this story is that slow and steady wins the race. These stories are similar because the morals are used in society everyday. They are different because they are used for different wrongs in peoples lives.
Blog post 2: The Igbo people define masculinity by when a husband beats their wife they call that masculinity. The igbo also define masculinity in the way a man handles their household. Like wether they let their kids walk all over them or not. The people here in America define masculinity by the way a man holds himself and the way he goes through everyday. We think that a man can show masculinity without getting angry or beating someone. We also say that a man can show masculinity through anger. They are similar because we both describe masculinity from anger. Both cultures show masculinity through anger. The Igbo culture is very rude to women. It upsets me that women are viewed as lesser people and do not really matter to the men. It is wrong fro the women to be beat without the men getting in trouble.
Blog post 1: I like the book so far its very interesting. Its a little hard to follow but after you get all the names and understand who everyone is, you can understand the book. The culture of the Igbo tribe is very interesting. It is much different than ours. Like when they talked about how Okonkwo brought back a human head from war and drank wine from it. Their culture is more about how wealthy you are. Wealthy men in the Igbo tribe have more than one wife. Unlike us most people have only one wife. One way our cultures are similar is we both practice religion and we also parent in the same way. We both also grow and harvest crops to make money. Another difference would be that in the Igbo tribe beating your wife is accepted but here it is not accepted at all. Both our culture and the Igbo culture practice religion. We have many different religions but we still practice religion just like they do. We have the Holy Bible and they have the Igbo Religion, Social Life.
